Best Practices Guides

The Colorado Legacy Foundation publishes annual guides that showcase best practices in Colorado school districts and schools.

2009
Creating Healthy Schools
This guide highlights data, best practices for school districts, and action steps for administrators, school board members, parents and the community. See 13 success stories across Colorado. Featured topics include health education, nutrition, physical activity, school health services and workplace wellness.

2008
Closing the Achievement Gap
This guide highlights the successful strategies that 39 Colorado schools used to outperform their peers in closing achievement gaps associated with student poverty and race. The best practices were drawn from the 2008 report “Profiles of Success,” which uncovered a series of promising practices. Among them – setting a culture of high expectations and accountability for students, using targeted assessments and data to guide instruction, providing individual support for struggling students, and actively engaging teachers in school leadership. The 2008 best practices guide was unveiled at the inaugural Commissioner’s Cup – since renamed the Commissioner’s Choice Awards.
